Knight Moves & Nasty Forks: Unleashing the Octopus!

The knight!! — the trickiest piece on the board. It jumps over friends, ignores diagonals, and strikes from strange angles. While the bishop slices and the rook charges, the knight sneaks.

One of the knight’s most dangerous weapons? The fork — attacking two (or more!) pieces at once, usually a king and a high-value target like a queen or rook.

But it doesn’t stop there:

  • Smothered mates — the knight can checkmate a king trapped by its own pieces.

  • Family forks — catching king, queen, and rook all in one nasty leap.

  • Outposts — a knight anchored on an enemy square is like a “lighthouse” dominating the board.

If your opponent leaves loose pieces lying around, your knight will be happy to tidy up — with forks, pins (in coordination), and even sneaky discovered attacks.

๐Ÿ“Œ Tip of the Day:

“Always ask: What does my knight see that I don’t?

It’s often the quietest pieces that land the deadliest blows.
