French Defense

Recently at the Golders Green rapidplay tournament I was faced with:

1. e4 e6
2. d4 d5
3.Nc3 (.... hoping for a Winawer ! 3..Bb4 4.e5)
.. c5
4.

Does anyone have any ideas about how White should reply to 3..c5
perhaps 4.Nf3 ?- any suggestions would be welcome ...

Greg,

Nf3 looks quite good. I'd then be looking to get my Bishop out and to castle. Maybe giving a check on b5 and then exchanging pieces may be an idea, so that it doesn’t cost a move. That also stops the chance of the bishop getting blocked in if black advances the pawn to c4.
